By signing a voluntary agreement on preventing and reducing food waste, Vindija and Koka joined the initiative of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Croatia as part of the project called "Together against food waste". With this initiative and voluntary agreement, which has the overall goal of reducing food waste by 30% by 2028, the Vindija Group continues to implement activities that contribute to ensuring a more sustainable and environmentally friendly business.
By signing this voluntary agreement, Vindija and Koka undertook to reduce food waste in accordance with their possibilities and circumstances, but also to commit themselves to other goals such as optimising storage, production and breeding and to using innovative production methods.
"Participating in the project ‘Together against food waste’ represents an additional step for the Vindija Group, a leading domestic food company, in strengthening socially responsible behaviour as a fundamental determinant of sustainable business development. Caring for people's well-being and protecting the environment, through the reduction of any kind of waste, are prerequisites for building a stable and long-term prosperous future in which the care of the most socially sensitive groups of society takes priority. In addition to taking care of people and the environment, we systematically and continuously invest in the optimisation of all production and business processes, and we apply this approach in all business segments. In this way, we also support the efforts of the Ministry of Agriculture as the initiator of the project, which we are sure will have multiple positive effects, because we agree with the key idea that food should not become waste," said Stjepan Sabljak, President of the Koka Management Board, during the signing of the agreement.
In addition to the Vindija Group, 33 other companies and institutions attended the official signing of the agreement, and the project itself is implemented within the framework of the Plan for the Prevention and Reduction of Food Waste of the Republic of Croatia for the period from 2023 to 2028 and the reform measure C1.5 R4 "Improving the food donation system" from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan 2021-2026.
Representatives of the Vindija Group participated in this project from the beginning through working groups, where they provided their inputs on how the project was going to be implemented and how the progress was to be monitored.
The Vindija Group, as the market leader in the food production sector, invests significant efforts in business sustainability, environmental acceptability and the reduction of waste associated with production and distribution processes. The signing of this agreement is another step in achieving a significant level of sustainability and self-sufficiency.
